September- Final weeks in Adelaide

September marked the last weeks we would be spending in Southern Australia. We could not believe that the 'working and saving money' part of our one year trip in Australia was almost over! We were very exited to get going and start our adventures in Queensland. So on our last weeks in Adelaide we did some arrangements for our trip to come and explored the last bits of the city.

On the first weekend of September we visited Glenelg, a cute coastal suburb with a jetty over the sea, the State Library, which was beautiful and the University of Adelaide campus area.

The second weekend of September was our last weekend in Adelaide. On Saturday morning we went to an open-air market with Lauren and Blake, a couple we had met at the gym. It was such a cool way to buy your veggies and fruit, not to mention that everything was locally produced and cheap. Later that day we had lunch at an Afghan restaurant in the city, a totally new cuisine for both of us. In the evening we went to see an AFL semi final game at the Adelaide Oval. We met up with Blake in the game as well. West Coast Eagles ended up beating Port Adelaide Power in a very tense match! What an atmosphere there was in the stadium!

Afghan food was great

The next week Oliver had his last days at work and Rosanna also finished working remotely to Finland. On Wednesday we got invited for a goodbye dinner to Lauren and Blake's beautiful house and had such a fun time! It felt a bit bittersweet to be leaving Adelaide just when we had made friends. We also had our last classes at the gym and were touched how nicely the crew sent us off!

Friday was Oliver's last day at his job and they had organised a going-away lunch for him, which was nice. Later that evening we went for dinner with our landlady Sarah to celebrate her upcoming birthday and to spend one last evening together. We had enjoyed living at her house and everything had gone smoothly. With our room now cleared of our stuff and our backpacks packed (read bursting in their seams) we went to bed with restless and anticipating thoughts. The next morning Sarah took us to the airport and we headed off to new adventures and experiences!

August - Adventures in South Australia together

Rosanna

The first week in August was my last week working and living in Melbourne. How fast six months had gone by! It was time to get ready to move to Adelaide.

The last week included a lot of packing and cleaning, but also my last day at the office and saying goodbye to all my lovely co-workers. We went out to see a movie and to have dinner together with my team on the last week and I also received a beautiful card from them. I couldn't have asked for a nicer way to end my days in my Aussie job.

Oliver arrived on Friday evening to help with the move and to take me with him to Adelaide. He was no help at all! We had reserved an AirBnB room for the last nights in Melbourne, since we had to vacate the flat already on Saturday morning. The AirBnB house was located in Carlton, really close to Fitzroy, which was one of the areas Oliver wanted to spend more time in. So over our last weekend in Melbourne we did a lot of touristy activities in the CBD, ate delicious food and enjoyed some drinks on Brunswick & Lygon streets and met up with our friends Arvi and Mari for the last time.

REUNITED

So from the beginning of the second week of August we were again living under the same roof. Phew we must say! From now on we will go back to writing this blog from our combined perspective.

In August Rosanna started to get used to living in Pooraka, Adelaide and again working full-time (to be honest only 4 days a week) to Finland. Oliver was still having a pretty relaxed time at work and continued to go to the gym every weeknight. Only now he forced Rosanna to join him but luckily not to every class. Rosanna also made acquaintance with our landlady Sarah's two dogs, Nelson and Winnie and started going for walks with them to get out of the house.

On our first Saturday together in Adelaide we had lunch at the Peter Rabbit Café in the CBD, since Rosanna explicitly wanted to get a chance to pet the rabbit they have there. The food was good too! On Sunday we borrowed our landlady's convertible and drove to Port Elliot for whale watching. The weather was amazing and we were lucky enough to spot two Southern Right Back whales from the beach in Middleton! It was the first time for both of us and felt pretty cool. On our way back we stopped for a pint at a German style village called Hahndorf, which was a bit of a disappointment since it was very touristy.

On our second weekend our landlady wanted to take us for a wine tour in Barossa Valley and we happily agreed, especially when she said that she could be the driver. We were lucky enough to get another sunny and warm day after a rainy week. We stopped at altogether five wineries as well as at the Barossa Valley Cheese Factory and had a blast getting to know the area.

On our third weekend we did yet another wine tasting trip, but this time to Adelaide Hills and with our roommates from Melbourne, who were visiting Adelaide. We visited three wineries and had lunch in a cute café in Mount Barker. After the trip we went back to the city for a dinner and a couple of drinks. It was a lovely day, even though we weren't that lucky with the weather.

August went by pretty quickly and we felt like we had seen Adelaide and its surroundings quite a lot. After the next two weeks we would be heading off to Queensland and starting our 6 month adventure in Oz, New Zealand and Asia. So we were eager for September to start and get ready to leave Adelaide.
