Cambodia 4.1. - 27.1.2018

After Vietnam we headed for Cambodia. We took the ferry from Phu Quoc to Ha Tien and then a mini bus to the border which we crossed by foot. We ended up spending three weeks in Cambodia in Kampot, Otres Beach, Koh Rong Samloem, Phnom Penh, Battambang and Siem Reap.

Kampot 4. - 7.1.2018

Hello Cambodia!

First tuk tuk in Asia

Our hostel had a waterpark which was a lot of fun!

Amazing clouds at sunset

Sunset over Kampot river

Downtown Kampot

Poor little bunnies

Lovely little cafe called Epic Arts Cafe run by people with disabilities

Enjoying a lovely dinner at Simple Things

Catching the train to Sihanoukville to get to Otres Beach

Otres Beach 7. - 10.1.2018

The beach

On an evening stroll

Hairs be gone!

Koh Rong Samloem 10. - 14.1.2018

Our home base, the M'Pay Bay

Main street in M'Pay Bay

Hiking to the Clear Water Bay

Rosanna cooling off

Some incredibly cute puppies living on the beach

Rosanna couldn't get enough of them

No surprise, look at it!

An amazing sunset

Doing a bit of beach cleanup

So much rubish from all over Asia washed up at the shores

The best breakfast at Seapony Bar

Their adorable puppy
On our way to Sunset beach

Some local boats

Sunset beach was lovely!

It didn't disappoint

Time to go, watch your step

Phnom Penh 15. - 19.1.2018

On the banks of Mekong

The view from Daughters of Cambodia cafe; staff all women who formerly worked in the sex industry

Doing something good by shopping in their shop

The Royal Palace

Amazing street art

A lady selling lotus flowers for religious rituals

Another lady selling small birds for the same rituals

Wat Ounalom

A sunset beer

An upsetting visit to the Choeung Ek killing fields where they've discovered almost 9000 bodies after the fall of Khmer Rouge regime

This was probably the most upsetting part of the fields

The Buddhist stupa in the middle contains around 5000 human skulls

Some of the skulls have clear signs of the execution method

The next day it was time for another upsetting visit to the S-21 prison

Where prisoners (mostly well educated people from the cities) were tortured until they confessed, most often than not to something they hadn't done

S-21 prison rules

To lighten our spirits we went to see the amazing central market

And a foot massage, Oliver still clearly upset

Wat Phnom

Battambang 19. - 22.1.2018

Walking in Battambang

The town had a lovely cafe scene

The Sangker river flows through Battambang

Lovely rocking horses on the river bank

A day trip to the killing caves: on the way there a set of statues depicting different torture methods

One of the many killing caves where the bodies of executed men and women were pushed

Skulls and bones recovered from the cave

On top of the hill is Wat Sampeou

Monkeys were all over the Wat

Views over the valley, it's quite flat

At around 6pm every night thousands of bats fly out of a cave. The amazing show lasts for almost 30 minutes.

Siem Reap 22. - 27.1.2018

Most of our time in Siem Reap we spent by the pool

Spending one day with the temples: First up Banteay Kdei Temple

Amazing trees of Ta Prohm

This temple is also known for being in the Tomb Raider movie

Restoration work under way

Are we lost yet

The steep stairs of Ta Keo

Made it to the top

The many faces of Angkor Thom

Walking towards Baphuon

Last but surely not least Angkor Wat

With over two million tourists every year these sort of monstrosities are unavoidable

Crossing over to the Art Market which didn't actually sell that much art

The Siem Reap river

Kandal Village our favourite part of town with less tourists and great cafes and restaurants

Wat Preah Prom Rath

Phare, The Cambodian Circus, was amazing!

Goodbye Cambodia
