Prelude

This blog is about our adventure to Australia starting in October 2016. We are using the blog as a diary, writing down what happened and where. The blog might help someone to plan their trip to one of the places we went to but for us its main purpose is to inform our our families and friends what we are up to.

Someone stumbling on this blog might ask who we are? We are a Finnish couple and we’ve lived in Finland all our lives except for our Erasmus exchange during our studies. We love to travel and we’ve done quite a bit of it before together, see our blog from two years back here, and separately. Our travels have mostly been to Europe but some to Asia too (check out our blog from our trip to Asia three years back rosolliaasiassa.blogspot.com).

Rosanna - is at time of writing 28 years of age. She’s a fun (read drinking game) loving science graduate, working at the moment with market research. She has a true passion for medicine and genetics. She’s very keen on acrobatics and gymnastics and obsessed with animals and the nature. If she’d get to have all the animals she wants, she would definitely need a farm or two to accommodate them.

Oliver - is at time of writing 30 years of age and a bit of a nerd, partly because of his profession (IT engineer) and partly because he just is. He’s half Finnish, half British. He loves tennis, cricket and football (soccer for the Aussies/Americans).

Over a year ago we had an idea we’d like to go and work abroad, not sure where but out of Finland to a place with a warmer climate. We thought about it long and hard (read over a couple glassed of wine) and ended up with the idea of getting working holiday visas to Australia. The next step was to decide when. Our first thought was to leave before the summer but after giving it a bit more thought we decided to leave in the autumn, on the 26th of October to be exact. In the summer Rosanna started having second thoughts about leaving, but Oliver assured her, wait until autumn and you can’t wait to get out of here. Sure enough come autumn with all it’s darkness and rain, she was more than happy with the idea.

Our last few days before leaving on our adventure were quite a blur with so much happening and packing and moving our flat in to a storage space. We didn’t really grasp that we were leaving until we saw all our stuff in the corner of that storage and an empty flat.
